Whine & Cheese
In any activity you engage in there is always going to be someone who is a little more annoying to deal with than everyone else. Nothing could be truer of poker. I challenge any group out there who plays poker to find me a scenario where 7-10 players are seated at a table and at least one of them is not dubbed in everyone's minds as "the guy at the table who I want to strangle right now." These feelings towards that particular player are sometimes justified and usually stem from a wide variety of personality traits or practices that player has. Some of the more popular annoyances I have witnessed bothering other players at the table are:
- Taking too long to deal or becoming distracted easily during a hand;
- Taking too long to deal or becoming distracted easily during a hand;
- Betting larger amounts with lower value hands;
- Raising the bet to meet a high-risk potential scenario;
- Constantly complaining about the hands that everyone chose to bet with;
- Telling everyone at the table what the "right way" to play that hand was;
- Getting too serious about the game when it is amongst a group of friends and;
- Getting upset each time someone makes a bet over and beyond the minimum;
There has not been one instance where I have not experienced annoyance over at least one of the aforementioned issues. However, the behaviour I personally dislike the most which has been left on the list is when a player displays anger after losing to your 4/8 and offering a free coaching seminar on why that is a bad play. I do not have to explain why a winning player should look at this person with one hand on the table scooping up his chips wile the other hand is getting to ready to make use of the middle portion of the fingers of his hand. This nonsense of players getting angry over what another player bet with or raised with is equivalent to a football coach walking up to another football coach and saying "you know Bob you really are stupid. You may have won the game and became a hero doing so in the process but your decision to run the ball on 4th and 1 from the 10 yard line was just plain stupid."
