Types Of Poker Games
There are many types of poker games that you can choose from. In the present article you can see some basic information on three of them - these are Texas Holdem, Omaha and Seven Card Stud.
Texas Holdem Poker
This poker game is played at a rounded table by at least six people. The players are dealt two cards face down and they start the pre-flop betting round in a clockwise direction. There is a small blind - the first person to the left of the dealer and a big blind - the second person to the left of the dealer. The player next to the big blind is known as the ‘under the gun’ player (often called the UTG player). The two blinds put the first bets in the pot - the small blind makes half the bet of the big blind. There are several stages of the game - flop, turn and river. In each of these stages board cards are dealt in the middle of the table - first, three cards are dealt, this is the flop, then another one is added, which is the turn, and the last card is the river card. The players use their two initial cards together with the board cards to form their five-card hand. The biggest of all poker hands wins the pot.
Omaha
This game is similar to Texas Holdem, because the pre-flop, flop, turn and river stages occur here as well. The difference is that the players start with four cards instead of two. At the end of the game each player uses only two of his/her initial cards in combination with three of the board cards to form the five-card hand at the showdown. Two people are putting the blind bets. The rules of Omaha are the same as those of Texas Holdem, meaning the same poker strategies can be applied here.
Seven Card Stud
In this poker game players should put in an ante before they are dealt any cards. The amount they should pay is determined by the game organizer, but usually it is more than 25% of the small bet. The players are then dealt two cards face down and one card face up. The player with the lowest card makes a forced bet - the ‘bring in’. ‘Suit rank’ betting comes when two players have the same up card and it goes in an alphabetical order - clubs, diamonds, hearts and spades. The betting round takes place in a clockwise direction. ‘Forth street’ is called the fourth card dealt to each player face up. Another betting round takes place, starting from the player with the biggest hand (consisting of the two cards face up). After that additional cards are dealt to each player - fifth, sixth and seventh street (the last card is dealt face down). Each of the stages is followed by a betting round. At the showdown the player with the best five-card hand becomes the winner.
